International Soccer Star Tim Howard
To Host 3rd Annual TSANJ Dinner

 

BRIDGEWATER , NJ - The Tourette Syndrome Association of New Jersey has announced that the 3rd Annual Fundraising Dinner, scheduled for Thursday, May 27, 2004, will be hosted by Tim Howard, international soccer star, currently starting goal keeper for Manchester United of the Premier League in England.

 

The event is will begin at 6:30 P.M. in the Atrium at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

 

Mr. Howard, a Central Jersey native and former all-star goal keeper for the NY/NJ MetroStars of Major League Soccer, is currently the number one goal keeper for the number one team in the number one league in the world, Manchester United. Howard was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at age 10 and has become an outspoken advocate for people with TS.

 

Tickets for the event are $195. Featured during the evening will be a silent auction, honoring of the Educator of the Year, and awarding the 2004 TSANJ Student Scholarship. In addition, the “Go Back with Tim” raffle will be kicked off, with the winner earning 2 round trip tickets to England, tickets to a Manchester United game, and dinner with Tim Howard.

 

The funds raised at the Gala will enable TSANJ to continue to provide education and support service to the TS community across the state. This is the largest single fundraising event of the year for TSANJ and every dollar that raised is another dollar that can be directed to helping the families and individuals across New Jersey who are impacted by TS.

BACKGROUNDER

The Tourette Syndrome Association is a 501(c)3 voluntary organization with a mission to provide educational programs, research, and service and support to the 200,000 Americans who have TS and the millions more who are affected by associated behaviors.

 

The Tourette Syndrome Association of New Jersey is one of 54 chapters nationwide. TSANJ has a membership of 3,000 families and medical professionals. The New Jersey organization relies completely on its membership, corporations, and foundations to fund its mission.

 

Currently TSANJ operates 10 support groups at regional medical centers for individuals and their families; conducts awareness training for teachers, school nurses, students and community leaders; manages a TS help line for disseminating information about TS to parents, teachers, doctors, and others; and sponsors a state-wide Family Contact Program. Additionally, a partnership with Rutgers University and other colleges in the state supports educational programs for medical and teaching professionals.
